If you have been injured in a crash...

  • if possible, exchange your name, address and property damage insurer's details with the drivers of all vehicles involved.
  • seek appropriate medical advice.
  • report the accident to your local police station as soon as possible ensuring you advise the police that you have suffered injury.
  • keep records of all details including:-
    • names, addresses and contact numbers for all drivers, witnesses and the investigating Police Officers
    • registration numbers of all vehicles (including the State in which the vehicles are registered)
    • location of the accident
    • circumstances of the accident
    • the doctors you have seen and, if you have been admitted to a hospital for treatment for your injuries, the hospital Unit Record number
    • Vehicle Collision Report number from SAPOL
    • all relevant accounts and receipts
  • contact a lawyer as soon as possible so that you may be informed of your legal rights and responsibilities.
